What is CAADA

The Capital Area Amateur Drivers' Association (CAADA) is a non-profit organization that promotes harness racing and the driving of standardbred race horses by amateur drivers. CAADA was started in 1992 by a group of horsemen that wanted to be able to drive in amateur races at Rosecroft Raceway. Since that time CAADA has become one the most active clubs on the east coast of the US. CAADA has about 20 races a year at Rosecroft Raceway, Colonial Downs, Ocean Downs, and the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock, Virginia. In the past we have also had races at the Delaware State Fair, and the North Carolina State Fair.

CAADA Races

CAADA runs about 15-20 races each year.  These races are for the most part run at Rosecroft Raceway located in Fort Washington, Maryland just off the Washington, DC beltway (route 495).  Some races are also run in the Fall each year at Colonial Downs located east of Richmond, Virginia on route 64 in New Kent County.  Each year the last week of August and Labor Day weekend CAADA holds the Ralph Snoots Memorial Pace at the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock, Virginia located just off route 81.  Some races are open to all CAADA members and there are some races on the betting card that require either a "P" or "A" drivers license.

The prize money for our amateur races comes from the generosity of our sponsors. (check out our "CAADA sponsors" page)

International Racing

CAADA has for some years been involved in international racing.  These events have been inter-club events with like minded amateur drivers in other countries.  To date CAADA members have raced in amateur races in Finland, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union.

CAADA has also invited amateurs from clubs in other countries to come and race in the US. CAADA has invited clubs from Finland, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, and New Zealand
