The Capital Area Amateur Drivers' Association (CAADA) is a non-profit organization that promotes harness racing and the driving of standardbred race horses by amateur drivers. CAADA was started in 1992 by a group of horsemen that wanted to be able to drive in amateur races at Rosecroft Raceway. Since that time CAADA has become one the most active clubs on the east coast of the US. CAADA has about 20 races a year at Rosecroft Raceway, Colonial Downs, Ocean Downs, and the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock, Virginia. In the past we have also had races at the Delaware State Fair, and the North Carolina State Fair.

What is amateur harness racing?

In General, an amateur driver is a driver who has not received valuable compensation for his or her services as a driver in the past 10 years.

To participate in CAADA events, a driver must hold an Matinee (M) , Qualifying/Fair (QF), Provisional (P) or Full (A) category driver's license issued by the United States Trotting Association, be a current member of CAADA, and we ask that drivers be a member of the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association for races in Maryland at Rosecroft Raceway and/or the Virginia Harness Horseman’s Association for races in Virginia at Colonial Downs. CAADA will decide all questions regarding a person's status as a club driver.

A Matinee Drivers License is the most easily obtainable drivers license. To be eligible for a Matinee license, an applicant must be at least 12 years old. The applicant is required to complete an application and submit the names of at least four currently licensed "A" drivers who can vouch for his/her ability. No test is required for a Matinee license.

If you do not have a license, join CAADA and start to learn about harness racing while working toward your goal.
